Commuters traveling between Delhi and Gurugram faced significant traffic disruptions on Wednesday as protesting farmers, continuing their 'Delhi Chalo' agitation, encountered road blockades set up by Delhi Police and their Gurugram counterparts. Elaborate arrangements, including multi-layered barricades, were put in place at various borders, causing traffic chaos at locations such as Rajokri border, Sarhol border, Delhi-Gurugram Highway (NH-48), and Delhi-Bahadurgarh Highway from 7 am to nearly 11 am.
Videos circulated online depicted hundreds of vehicles stranded in traffic jams due to restricted movement, prompting heightened security measures by Delhi Police to prevent farmers from entering the national capital.
Despite the Centre's proposal to buy pulses, maize, and cotton crops at minimum support price (MSP) for five years, the protesting farmers rejected the offer and vowed to continue their agitation. The fourth round of talks on Sunday saw a panel of three Union ministers making the proposal, which the farmers deemed unfavorable.
Delhi Police, emphasizing the maintenance of safety and law and order, directed personnel at Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur borders to stay vigilant. The "Delhi Chalo" march, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, has intensified security measures at Delhi-Haryana borders, with clashes reported at the Punjab-Haryana border on February 13.
