Congress calls emergency meeting in Delhi tomorrow amid Mamata's LoP demand

The Congress has called an urgent meeting of all Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, general secretaries, and state in-charges in New Delhi on June 11, triggering speculation about a possible decision concerning Mamata Banerjee's future political alignment. According to a letter issued by Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on June 10, the meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Indira Bhavan and will be chaired by the Congress President. Party leaders from across the country have been asked to attend.

The development comes amid intensified political discussions following recent meetings between senior Congress and Trinamool Congress leaders in the national capital. On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee met Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath, while on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee met Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. The meeting between Abhishek and Rahul Gandhi reportedly lasted around one and a half hours.

The back-to-back interactions between the top leadership of the two parties have fueled speculation regarding possible political realignments. Discussions have emerged in political circles over whether Mamata Banerjee could join the Congress along with her supporters or whether a broader arrangement involving the Trinamool Congress could be explored. No official statement has been issued by either party regarding such reports.

According to the letter circulated by K.C. Venugopal, all Congress general secretaries, state in-charges, and PCC presidents have been instructed to attend the meeting. The communication described the gathering as an "urgent meeting" and stated that it would be presided over by the Congress President. Such nationwide consultations involving senior organizational leaders are generally convened ahead of significant political or organizational decisions.

West Bengal Congress president Shubhankar Sarkar is also expected to attend the meeting in Delhi. The emergency gathering has drawn attention because of its short notice and timing amid ongoing political developments involving Congress and Trinamool Congress leaders. Neither the Congress nor the Trinamool Congress has made any official announcement regarding the subject of the meeting.
