Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
The Congress party, led by MP Jairam Ramesh, rejected the recent NITI Aayog report on multidimensional poverty, dismissing it as "bogus" and characterizing the think tank as a mere "cheerleader" for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), released a discussion paper claiming that nearly 25 crore people in India were lifted out of poverty over the last nine years.
The study, using the National Multidimensional Poverty Index (NMPI), highlighted significant declines in poverty, particularly in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. Despite these findings, the Congress party criticized the report, challenging its credibility and announcing plans for a press conference to elaborate on their stance.
