Exit Polls show Congress surge in Haryana, NC+ alliance lead in J&K
In a significant political move, Farooq Abdullah, leader of the National Conference (NC), has confirmed that his party will form an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The two parties have agreed in principle to join forces, and seat-sharing discussions are currently underway.
The alliance was discussed in a late-night meeting in Srinagar, where leaders from both the National Conference and Congress negotiated the allocation of seats. Congress is reportedly interested in contesting 12 seats in the Kashmir Valley, while offering 12 seats to the NC in the Jammu division. However, no final decision has been reached, and another round of talks is expected to finalize the agreement within the next day or two.
This alliance could play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, especially as the region prepares for its first Assembly elections in six years. The upcoming polls are particularly historic, given the significant changes in Jammu and Kashmir over the past five years, including the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the state into Union Territories.
The Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results expected to be announced on October 4.
