Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the party's new headquarters, 'Indira Bhawan,' at 9A, Kotla Road in New Delhi today. This event marks a pivotal moment for the Congress party, which has operated from its 24, Akbar Road premises for the past 47 years.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, former president Rahul Gandhi, and general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and K C Venugopal. The event commenced with the hoisting of the party flag, followed by renditions of 'Vande Mataram' and the national anthem. Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by Mallikarjun Kharge, officially opened the new building by cutting the ceremonial ribbon at its entrance.

The 'Indira Gandhi Bhawan' is a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the evolving needs of the Congress party. AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal highlighted that the building symbolizes the party's commitment to progress while honoring its rich legacy. He stated, "It is time for us to move ahead with the times and embrace the new. "The construction of this modern headquarters began during Sonia Gandhi's tenure as Congress president, reflecting her vision for the party's future.

Strategically located at 9A, Kotla Road, the 'Indira Gandhi Bhawan' is equipped with modern facilities to support the party's administrative, organizational, and strategic activities. The design of the building pays homage to the Congress party's storied past while embracing a forward-looking vision. Despite the move to the new headquarters, sources indicate that the party will retain its historic 24, Akbar Road office, which has served as its base since 1978. This location will continue to house some of the party's cells, maintaining its historical significance.

The construction of the new headquarters faced delays over the years, primarily due to funding challenges following the Congress party's loss of central government power. The completion and inauguration of 'Indira Gandhi Bhawan' signify a renewed commitment to organizational strength and adaptability in the contemporary political landscape.

The 24, Akbar Road bungalow holds a rich history, having witnessed the tenure of seven Congress presidents. Beyond serving as an office, it has been a symbol of the party's resilience and evolution over the decades. The transition to the new headquarters represents a blend of tradition and modernity, aiming to equip the Congress party to address current challenges while honoring its enduring legacy.
