Congress has decided to rename its scheduled 'Bharat Nyay Yatra,' set to commence from January 14, to 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.' The decision was announced by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh during a meeting of party leaders. Ramesh highlighted that the term 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' has become a recognizable brand and should be retained. The yatra, covering 15 states and spanning 6,700 km, will begin at 12 pm from Imphal, Manipur's capital, addressing issues arising from ethnic violence. Rahul Gandhi, who will lead the march, is slated to address it twice daily over 66 days.
Originally planned from Arunachal Pradesh's Pasighat to Porbandar in Gujarat, the route was altered due to ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur since May 3. The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' will now cover 1,000 km in Uttar Pradesh and 523 km in West Bengal. The Congress aims to invite All INDIA parties and civil society organizations, with the march spanning 110 districts. Reflecting on the previous 'Bharat Jodo Yatra,' which witnessed mixed successes for the Congress, Ramesh noted victories in Karnataka and Telangana but acknowledged setbacks in north India, emphasizing the continued significance of the march.
