Controversial government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (amendment) bill, 2023 introduced in Parliament by Amit Shah

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was introduced in Parliament by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. This measure is to replace the controversial decree on the control of services in the capital of the republic.

Introducing the Bill in Parliament, Amit Shah said that "the Constitution gives Parliament every right to introduce any law with respect to Delhi".

Under the Delhi Ordinance Act, it supported the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Centre. BJD MP Pinaki Mishra said, “The Supreme Court judgment says that Parliament can enact any law in the case of Delhi. All objections are political. They have the constitutional basis of a parliamentary foundation. So give us the right to introduce the bill.”

Under the proposed legislation, the center would have the power to suspend or investigate officials in the state capital. It was raised this afternoon amid the uproar over the Manipur issue in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The Manipur issue created a snag in the Parliament session today as opposition parties sought a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the violent state.

Opposition MPs started shouting on the issue of Manipur when Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla tried to start Question Hour at 11:00 AM.

After their short session lasting only 15 minutes, both houses of parliament were adjourned until 3 o'clock.
