What began as a night of celebration turned tense in parts of Hyderabad and Bengaluru, where police resorted to a mild lathi charge on jubilant Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans following the team's historic IPL 2025 victory. RCB clinched their first-ever IPL title after 18 years, defeating Punjab Kings in a gripping final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Thousands of fans poured onto the streets to celebrate the win, lighting fireworks, waving flags, and chanting “Ee Sala Cup Namde.” However, the festivities extended beyond the permitted hours, prompting police intervention. Despite repeated warnings and appeals to clear the roads, crowds remained, leading to police using mild force in some locations to restore order.
In Hyderabad, visuals showed Telangana police charging at large groups of fans on bikes, attempting to disperse them amid heavy traffic and firecrackers. In Kalaburagi, Bengaluru, similar scenes unfolded with fans banging drums and gathering in large numbers, forcing local police to baton-charge the crowd for crowd control and traffic management.
While no major injuries were reported, the incident highlighted the challenges of managing spontaneous mass celebrations in densely populated urban areas. Authorities have urged fans to celebrate responsibly and adhere to public safety protocols in future events.
