In a major anti-narcotics operation, officials detained three individuals, including a woman, after recovering over 20 kg of suspected ganja near the eastern flank footpath of Strand Road, close to the main gate of Eden Police Camp under Maidan police station limits on Thursday morning. The seizure is being treated as a commercial quantity under relevant laws.
The detained individuals have been identified as Jaideb Paik (38), Raju Sarder (32), and Usha Sarder (36). According to officials, the trio failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for possessing such a large quantity of the suspected contraband. All three are residents of South 24 Parganas district. The operation was carried out by the anti-narcotics cell as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking in the city. Authorities intercepted the individuals during the raid and seized the suspected ganja from their possession, triggering further investigation into the supply chain and possible links.
Officials confirmed that the legal procedures related to search, seizure and arrest are currently underway. Further investigation is being conducted to determine the origin and intended distribution network of the seized contraband.
