Cops seize 5 marijuana bags from taxi, arrest smugglers heading to Aquatica

Polerhat police seized five bags of marijuana from a yellow taxi in the Hathishala area of Bhangar on Wednesday morning. The seizure was made following a tip-off, and the vehicle was intercepted during a targeted operation. Officials confirmed that the contraband was packed in large bags and is estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.

According to police sources, the accused had boarded a train from Cooch Behar and reached Sealdah station. From there, they hired a yellow taxi claiming they were headed to Aquatica in New Town. However, they later offered the driver additional money and changed their route toward Bhangar. The taxi was stopped and searched in Hathishala, where the drugs were discovered.

Polerhat police stated that they had been monitoring the area for some time based on intelligence inputs. After the seizure, the individuals involved were taken into custody for questioning. The police have initiated further investigation to trace the origin and intended delivery point of the marijuana.
