Cops tied to tree and heckled by mob in WB village; Eight arrested

In an unsettling incident in West Bengal's Nadia district, two police personnel, an assistant sub-inspector, and a constable, were tied to a tree and subjected to heckling by a mob, primarily comprising women, on Thursday. The episode unfolded when the policemen were dispatched to Bhimpur village for an inquiry prompted by information about a land dispute between two groups.

The mob, reportedly numbering around 50 individuals, confronted the officers, demanding resolution of the dispute. When the policemen declined, they were forcibly tied to a tree and subjected to verbal abuse. The superintendent of police, Amarnath K, confirmed the arrest of eight individuals, including four women, in connection with the incident. Both policemen were subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.
