In a significant update for passengers traveling from West Bengal towards Odisha and Tamil Nadu, South Eastern Railway has announced a major operational change: two prominent express trains, the Coromandel Express and the Dhauli Express, will now depart from Howrah Station instead of Shalimar Station, effective August 25th. This strategic modification aims to enhance passenger convenience and improve logistical efficiency, impacting thousands of daily commuters and long-distance travelers. The railway board issued a notification detailing this alteration on Wednesday, ensuring ample time for passengers to adjust their travel plans.
The Coromandel Express (12841), which currently departs from Shalimar at 3:15 PM, will now originate from Howrah Station at 3:10 PM starting August 25th. This minor adjustment in departure time from the new originating station aims to facilitate smoother operations. Similarly, for its return journey, the train (12842) arriving from Chennai will now terminate at Howrah Station at 11:00 AM, a slight shift from its previous arrival time of 11:05 AM at Shalimar.
In a parallel change, the Dhauli Express (12821), bound for Puri, which used to depart from Shalimar at 9:15 AM, will now commence its journey from Howrah Station at 9:10 AM. Correspondingly, the return train (12822) from Puri, previously arriving at Shalimar at 7:25 PM, will now arrive at Howrah Station at 7:30 PM, accommodating the new originating and terminating point.
Railway authorities have explicitly clarified that these changes pertain only to the originating and terminating stations, along with a slight modification in departure and arrival times. The routes of both trains, including their timings and stoppages at intermediate stations, will remain unchanged. This ensures that passengers boarding or deboarding at stations along the route will not be affected by these specific changes.
Passengers planning their journeys on these popular routes are strongly advised to take note of the revised timings and originating station from August 25th onwards. The move to Howrah, a larger and more centrally located railway hub, is expected to benefit a wider range of commuters by providing better connectivity and accessibility.
