In a major legal development regarding the recent clash at Dharmatala, Bankshall Court in Kolkata granted bail to all 16 arrested individuals on Tuesday. When produced in court, the police had initially prayed for judicial custody for the accused. The presiding magistrate initially granted the prosecution's request, remanding the arrested individuals to judicial custody until July 30.
However, within minutes of issuing the initial custody order, the lower court reversed its stance following references to Supreme Court directives and guidelines. Citing the relevant higher court precedents, the judge amended the order and granted bail to all 16 individuals involved in the Dharmatala demonstration clash.
The court granted bail to the arrestees against a personal bond of Rs 500 each. The sudden reversal from judicial custody to immediate bail marks a significant turn in the legal proceedings surrounding the high-profile protest and clash at Dharmatala.
