Tension escalated in the Kunustoria Masjid Para area under Tapasi Gram Panchayat in Jamuria after wall writings of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) were found defaced with cow dung on Thursday morning. The incident comes just days after Horeram Singh was re-announced as the party’s candidate, prompting party workers to begin campaign wall writings across the locality.
With election campaigning intensifying, walls across the region have been filled with political slogans, messages, and counter-attacks by rival parties. Amid this charged atmosphere, the defacement of TMC’s wall writings triggered unrest, with the party alleging that opposition groups were behind the act. As the news spread, TMC workers from Tapasi and nearby areas gathered at the spot and staged protests.
TMC leadership described the incident as a “pre-planned political conspiracy.” Local leader Jagannath Singh accused opposition parties of engaging in “dirty politics” under the cover of darkness and attempting to disrupt their campaign efforts. A formal complaint has been lodged with the police, seeking an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) have strongly denied any involvement. BJP leader Dr. Bijan Mukherjee dismissed the allegations, claiming the incident stemmed from internal disputes within TMC. CPI(M) candidate Sabir Hossain also rejected the charges, stating that the Left does not support such acts and called on the administration to identify the real culprits and take appropriate action.
