A major mishap was averted last night due to the vigilance of locals between the Akra and Santoshpur railway stations. A big crack was present on the railway track of the Sealdah-Budge Budge route. Observing the same, locals stood on the track holding red cloth to signal the upcoming Budge Budge local train.
As per the witnesses, they heard a loud noise when a goods train crossed the area. It was coming from Sealdah. On approaching the location, from where the sound came, they spotted the crack. Suddenly they noticed another train was approaching. The local heroes decided to stop it by signaling and started waving red cloth.
The local train driver saw this and applied the brakes in time and a major mishap was averted. Railway police officers also arrived at the spot after getting the information. The situation was normalized and after about two hours, the repair work was started. The train was slowly moved towards Budge Budge.
