In a significant operation, the Central Revenue Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) seized gold worth over Rs. 1.8 crore and arrested two individuals on charges of smuggling. The two men were caught at a toll plaza in Cooch Behar while traveling in a government bus bound for Bihar. The officers recovered 11 gold biscuits, each weighing 116 grams, from their possession. The total weight of the seized gold amounts to 1.276 kilograms.
The operation was carried out based on a tip-off, which led to the swift interception of the suspects. Following their arrest, the individuals were brought to Siliguri for a detailed search, where the gold was recovered. The CRIB officials have confirmed the seizure, though the identities of the arrested individuals have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace the source of the gold and uncover any larger smuggling networks involved. The seized gold is being examined by customs officials, and further legal proceedings are underway. The CRIB has stated that it will take necessary action based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
