In a bid to ensure the efficient utilization of central forces during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has announced that it will furnish regular reports to the Home Ministry. The Inspector General (IG) of CRPF's West Bengal Sector will be tasked with submitting detailed reports on the movement of forces every morning, starting from March 29. These reports, mandated to be sent via email by 10 am daily, will also require hard copy submission, as per sources familiar with the matter. The decision aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the deployment of central forces, facilitating their effective utilization in response to the prevailing situation.
Opposition parties have raised concerns regarding the alleged underutilization of central forces during elections in Bengal, prompting efforts to address these issues ahead of the upcoming polls. Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar emphasized the need for proper deployment of forces to prevent instances of idle deployment or diversion. He stated, "The amount of forces going to the states should be deployed properly... There should not be any allegation that the force has been sent to another place." With the CRPF's proactive measures, including strict monitoring of force deployment and activities, efforts are underway to ensure the fair and efficient conduct of elections in West Bengal.
