A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Sub-Inspector died while on election duty for the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 in East Burdwan district. The deceased has been identified as Nagrendra Singh, who was deployed for security at a polling station when he suddenly fell ill. He was rushed to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, where he died during treatment.
Officials said Singh was attached to the 215th Battalion based in Jamui and was a resident of the Sarai police station area in Vaishali district, Bihar. He had been deployed as part of the central forces stationed in the district to ensure smooth and secure conduct of the elections.
The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Authorities stated that it is being examined whether the death was due to natural illness or any other specific reason. An investigation has been initiated, while central forces remain deployed across East Burdwan and other districts for the ongoing election process.
