CS Pant calls Jr Doctors for meeting at 6:30 pm in Nabanna, urges them to return to work

In response to the ongoing protest by the West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front over the RG Kar rape and murder case, Chief Secretary Dr. Manoj Pant has urged the striking doctors to return to work in the larger public interest. In a formal reply to the Junior Doctors’ demand for a meeting, Dr. Pant reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns regarding safety and security in medical colleges and hospitals.

Dr. Pant highlighted that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already announced the formation of a special Task Force to deal with these issues. The state government has acknowledged the doctors' concerns and has moved forward with actions such as transferring certain top officials from the Health Department and Kolkata Police, as per the demands raised by the protesting medical professionals.

Despite the pressing situation in South Bengal, where vast areas are inundated, Dr. Pant emphasized the importance of doctors resuming their duties. He appealed to them to provide essential services to the common people, especially in light of the ongoing crisis.

Dr. Pant and other members of the Task Force have scheduled a meeting with a delegation of 30 junior doctors at Nabanna Sabhaghar today, September 18, at 6:30 PM. He requested the delegation to arrive at the venue by 6:15 PM to discuss the measures being taken to improve their safety and security.

The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front has been on strike following the RG Kar rape and murder case. While some of their demands, including the removal of top officials, have been met, the doctors continue to protest and have not yet resumed work. They have previously highlighted concerns over the development of healthcare infrastructure, safety, security, and the prevailing threat culture in hospitals across the state.

With the formation of the Task Force, the government has assured further discussions on the formulation and implementation of initiatives aimed at addressing the doctors' concerns.
