Mamata Banerjee takes out candle march demanding justice for Baruipur victim
The ongoing Baruipur assault and murder case is yet to reveal all of the culprits, but elsewhere, the wheels of justice turn faster. In a prompt response by Malda police, the accused in the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in English Bazaar was arrested from Purnia, Bihar, within hours of the incident. In the quiet locality of English Bazaar under Malda’s English Bazar Police Station, a harrowing incident has shaken the community. A 12-year-old Class 6 student was allegedly lured by her male neighbor to an empty house and sexually assaulted in the afternoon. The girl returned home in distress and was rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where a medical examination confirmed her condition. Her family filed a complaint that evening, triggering immediate police action.
Authorities formed a special team and, leveraging technical surveillance, tracked the accused who had fled to Purnia in neighboring Bihar. The youth was apprehended the same night, demonstrating commendable inter-state coordination. Malda Additional Superintendent of Police Maqsood Hasan assured a speedy trial and strict punishment. The incident has heightened local tensions, prompting police to maintain heightened vigilance in the area.
The case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of young girls and the effectiveness of rapid policing in sensitive matters. Community members and the victim’s family continue to demand justice, hoping the swift arrest marks the beginning of accountability. As investigations proceed, this episode further emphasizes the urgent need for stronger safeguards and awareness to protect children from such crimes, especially when it appears that they're not safe anywhere, whether it is in Maldah or in Baruipur.
