CV Ananda Bose approves bill regarding salary increase of Bengal MLAs and MPs

West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has granted his assent to two bills concerning the salary increments for ministers and MLAs. The bills, which were presented in a special session of the Assembly on Monday, had sparked debate and speculation about the need for the Governor's approval. The Leader of the Opposition, Subhendu Adhikari, contended that the Governor's consent is necessary for passing financial bills in the Assembly.

The bills will now be discussed on December 4, following the delay caused by a one-day adjournment for condolence proceedings.

In the wake of the bills' presentation in the Assembly on Monday, BJP MLAs protested both inside and outside the assembly hall, alleging that the state government had unethically introduced the bills without obtaining the Governor's approval. However, Speaker Biman Banerjee clarified that the bills could only be passed after receiving the Governor's endorsement. As a result, the bills' discussion was adjourned to accommodate condolence proceedings for a former MLA's demise. The delay in approval is expected to postpone the salary increments for ministers and MLAs by several days.

Governor CV Anand Bose's approval, granted on Tuesday morning, paves the way for the legislative process to proceed. However, the delay in this approval is expected to push back the implementation of the salary increases for ministers and MLAs in West Bengal.
