Cyclone Dana struck South 24 Parganas just after midnight on Thursday, unleashing winds exceeding 100 km/h and heavy rainfall. The storm caused extensive damage, particularly in Gabria Gram Panchayat under the Mandirbazar assembly, where reports confirmed that 20 to 25 mud houses collapsed by Friday evening, displacing numerous families. Local meteorological departments indicated that Dana’s impact resulted in rainfall exceeding 200 mm in some areas.

The sudden intensity of the cyclone caught many residents off guard. Many mud houses, which lacked adequate structural support, succumbed to the severe weather. Eyewitnesses reported families fleeing their homes as walls crumbled and roofs collapsed, leaving them vulnerable to the elements. The situation was exacerbated by the storm's rapid onset, resulting in little time for residents to prepare for evacuation.

In response to the widespread destruction, local officials mobilized emergency relief efforts. Soumitra Mandal, the husband of the Gram Panchayat head, confirmed that rescue operations began swiftly, with community volunteers assisting in transporting affected families to safer locations.
