CV Ananda Bose appealed, “I am distressed to learn that some of the employees are on hunger strike for weeks. Their commitment to the cause and their dedication to their fraternity are well understood and appreciated. Human life is precious and I entreat all to kindly withdraw the hunger strike.”
The Bengal Governor further added that all stakeholders will work together for an acceptable solution. “For every problem, there is a solution. I trust that all stakeholders will work together for an acceptable solution,” he added.
The Bengal Governor’s appeal to the state government employees comes at a time when a joint body of trade unions has called for a general strike tomorrow in the state, supported by the Left, Congress, and BJP.
The employees demanded a hike in their DA, which is currently at 3 percent of their basic salary. The state government employees also demanded that all vacant posts in various departments should be filled up immediately "with clarity".
