The Mumbai Police have initiated legal proceedings against 32 individuals, including the Director of Dabur, Gaurav Burman, and Dabur's Chairman Mohit Burman, in connection with the Mahadev betting app. The FIR, filed on November 7, under various sections of fraud and gambling, positions Mohit Burman and Gaurav Burman as alleged accused number 16 and 18, respectively. Actor Sahil Khan, accused number 26 in the FIR, is implicated in operating another betting app linked to Mahadev's online betting platform. The case pertains to the operation of a betting app named Khiladi.
According to social activist Prakash Bankar, who filed the complaint, the alleged fraud amounts to Rs 15,000 crore. The police have registered the case under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 120 (B) of IPC. Additionally, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) is investigating the Mahadev Book Online Betting APP syndicate, uncovering remote operations allegedly orchestrated by the promoters abroad.
The ED has arrested four individuals, seized over Rs 450 Crore in proceeds of crime, and filed a prosecution complaint against 14 accused persons. Notably, the ED's investigation revealed allegations of substantial payments—approximately Rs 508 Crore—made by Mahadev APP promoters to Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, raising questions about potential connections to electioneering expenses in the region.
