Dalai Lama open to talks with China, says Chinese officials want to contact him

The Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, has expressed his willingness to engage in talks with China regarding the issues faced by Tibetans.

In a conversation with reporters in Dharamshala prior to his visit to Delhi and Ladakh, he revealed that Chinese officials, "officially or unofficially," have shown interest in contacting him.

Dalai Lama stated, "I am always open to talk. Now China also realizes that the spirit of Tibetan people is very strong. So, in order to deal with Tibetan problems, they want to contact me. I am also ready." Emphasizing that Tibet does not seek independence and has chosen to remain a part of the People's Republic of China for many years, he acknowledged the changing dynamics within China.

The spiritual leader, born in Tibet, expressed his commitment to not only working for the cause of Tibet but also for the welfare of all sentient beings. Despite facing a harsh attitude from some Chinese leaders, Dalai Lama mentioned that he harbors no anger towards anyone.

He acknowledged China's historical Buddhist background, citing the numerous temples and monasteries he had witnessed during his visit to the country.

Dalai Lama emphasized the potential benefits of Tibetan culture and religion for the world, stating, "I believe there is knowledge within Tibetan culture and religion that can benefit the world at large." He also expressed respect for other religious traditions, recognizing their promotion of love and compassion among their followers.

On his 88th birthday on July 6, Dalai Lama visited the Main Tibetan Temple courtyard in Dharamshala, near his residence, where he celebrated the occasion. The spiritual leader expressed his determination to continue serving others, with dreams and predictions suggesting he expects to live beyond 100 years. He requested prayers for his long life based on this belief.
