Dancers hired to perform obscene act, beaten after refusal in Bengal; 2 arrested

In West Bengal's Nandakumar area, police have arrested two members of the Sonar Bangla Club following allegations that they forced hired dancers to perform obscene acts and assaulted them when they refused. The incident took place at a club-organized event in the Thekua Bazaar area, where dancers had been contracted for a three-hour performance. According to the formal complaint filed by the dancers, club members demanded an additional two hours of performances, including explicit acts outside of their contract, and resorted to verbal abuse and physical assault when the dancers declined.

The incident came to light after dancers contacted the artists’ association BSFU, led by President Praveen Pattnayak. BSFU immediately reported the incident to Nandakumar Police Station, prompting officers to respond. Police arrived at the scene, intervened, and rescued the dancers from further confrontation. The dancers were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation, and authorities collected their statements, which included details of the alleged abuse and intimidation they faced at the hands of Sonar Bangla Club members.

Law enforcement reported that the two arrested individuals were directly involved in pressuring the dancers to perform acts outside the agreed terms. According to initial reports, other club members were also involved in pressuring the dancers and using intimidation tactics, and the investigation is ongoing. The police have collected testimonies from witnesses at the event, and additional club members are under scrutiny as authorities work to determine the full scope of the incident.
