Parade begins at Red Road to celebrate India's 76th Republic Day
Actress Debolina Dutta has reported that multiple events she was scheduled to attend have been canceled due to political interference. Dutta, known for her involvement in protests, especially following the R.G. Kar incident, revealed that organizers have been threatened, resulting in the cancellation of her appearances this season. She stated that organizers are under pressure from political authorities, which is leading to her exclusion from cultural events.
According to Dutta, event organizers have directly informed her that they could not invite her due to political reasons. One organizer reportedly sent a message saying, “We cannot invite you because of political reasons. Apologies.” Dutta’s claims are based on these personal communications with the organizers who expressed fear of repercussions if they proceeded with her participation.
Dutta also mentioned that her active involvement in protests, such as wearing a “We Want Justice” badge at events, has led to her being targeted. She emphasized that her professional engagements have been negatively impacted as a result of her political stance. Despite facing these challenges, Dutta has asserted her commitment to continue her involvement in protests, stating she would not back down due to political pressure.
This development sheds light on the growing concerns over political influence in the cultural and entertainment sectors in West Bengal. Artists and event organizers are reportedly facing increasing challenges, with many fearing retaliation or exclusion from public events if they express dissent or engage in political activities. Dutta’s case reflects a broader trend of political control over the artistic community in the state, impacting the freedom of expression in cultural spaces.
