Meerut Police have registered a case against an Instagram user for circulating an AI-generated deepfake video featuring a senior police inspector in uniform kissing Muskan Rastogi, the woman accused of murdering her husband Saurabh Rajput with her boyfriend, Sahil Shukla. The controversial video has sparked outrage and led to a police crackdown on the misuse of AI technology.
According to officials, a senior Sub-Inspector of Brahmpuri Police Station lodged an FIR against the Instagram ID "priyanshurox_31" under provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The deepfake video, which recently went viral, allegedly depicted Muskan—who is in police custody—kissing the uniformed inspector. The officer, in his complaint, claimed that the video was intended to defame him and damage his reputation.
Meerut Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh stated that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the creator of the video. Officials also found several other AI-generated videos of Muskan and Sahil on the same Instagram account, which has over 75,000 followers.
The deepfake controversy comes amid the high-profile murder case of Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer who was allegedly killed by his wife Muskan and her boyfriend Sahil on March 4. Investigations revealed that Muskan and Sahil drugged and stabbed Saurabh to death, dismembered his body, and sealed it inside a drum filled with cement. The accused then went on a vacation to Himachal Pradesh, misleading Saurabh’s family by sending messages from his phone.
The murder came to light when Saurabh’s family filed a missing complaint on March 18. Upon investigation, police arrested Muskan and Sahil and sent them to judicial custody. The two had been in a relationship since school and reconnected via WhatsApp in 2019. Muskan and Sahil allegedly planned the murder to be together, but their request to be lodged in the same barrack was denied by jail authorities.
