A bomb threat email targeting the Delhi Legislative Assembly triggered a major security alert in the national capital on Tuesday, prompting immediate deployment of bomb disposal squads and police teams across the premises. The threat came on the day the Delhi Budget was scheduled to be presented, intensifying concerns over security preparedness.
According to officials, the first threatening email was received at around 7:28 AM, followed by another message sent directly to the official email ID of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta at 7:49 AM. The email warned that the Assembly complex and the nearby Vidhan Sabha Metro Station could be targeted in a possible explosion.
The contents of the email reportedly included provocative language and references to a Khalistan-related agenda, with a group identifying itself as the “Khalistani National Army” allegedly issuing threats. Several high-profile leaders, including the Prime Minister, Union ministers, and Delhi’s top leadership, were also named in the message, raising the gravity of the situation.
Following the alert, security agencies conducted thorough searches across the Assembly premises and surrounding areas. Dog squads and bomb disposal units were pressed into service, while security was heightened at key installations across the city. However, no suspicious object had been found during initial checks.
Officials have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the emails and verify the credibility of the threat. Authorities remain on high alert as similar hoax threats in recent months have targeted schools and public institutions, prompting precautionary evacuations and intensified surveillance.
