A Delhi court on Monday granted 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana permission to make a one-time monitored phone call to his family. The call, as per court orders, will be made under strict supervision of Tihar Jail officials and in compliance with all jail regulations.
The court also directed the jail authorities to submit a detailed report within 10 days on whether Rana should be allowed regular phone communication in the future. A health status report of the accused has also been sought.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has been interrogating Rana, supported the one-time call request. Rana was extradited from the United States on April 9 after his final legal challenge was dismissed. Since then, he has been in NIA custody at Tihar Jail.
Rana, a 64-year-old Pakistan-born Canadian national, is accused of conspiring with David Coleman Headley and terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and HUJI in orchestrating the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 9.
