Delhi fortifies security for Republic day 2024 with over 70,000 personnel deployed

On the occasion of the 75th Republic Day, Delhi transformed into a fortress with extensive security measures in place, involving the deployment of over 70,000 security personnel. The Delhi Police, in anticipation of the Republic Day celebrations, issued traffic advisories detailing traffic systems and restrictions for the day. Among the security personnel, 14,000 were specifically assigned to safeguard the path of the Republic Day parade, ensuring the safety of the approximately 77,000 invited attendees. Special Commissioner of Police (Security) Deepender Pathak highlighted the coordination efforts between security, traffic, and district units with central security agencies, emphasizing the comprehensive arrangements made to address air threats.

The 90-minute Republic Day parade, showcasing India's military strength and cultural heritage, will witness the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron as the chief guest. Security preparations include the deployment of commandos, quick response teams, PCR vans, anti-sabotage forces, and 'SWAT' parties along the parade route and strategic locations in the city. Delhi Police has also taken measures to maintain peace in sensitive areas following the Ram temple Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone Two) Madhup Tiwari outlined the security arrangements, dividing New Delhi into 28 zones with designated officials overseeing each zone. Traffic restrictions will be in place, starting from Thursday evening, with no traffic allowed from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, and limited access on specified roads during the parade. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has issued guidelines for Republic Day attendees, allowing them to use coupons issued at stations upon displaying government-issued identity cards.
