Delhi HC issues notice to Patanjali over alleged non-vegetarian ingredients in Divya Dant Manjan

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to Baba Ramdev and Patanjali's Divya Pharmacy in response to a petition alleging that their herbal tooth powder, Divya Dant Manjan, contains non-vegetarian ingredients despite being labeled as vegetarian. The petition, filed by advocate Yatin Sharma, claims that the product’s packaging features a green dot, signifying it as vegetarian, while the ingredient list includes Sepia officinalis, derived from cuttlefish.

Justice Sanjeev Narula issued notices to the Centre, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Patanjali, Divya Pharmacy, and Yoga guru Ramdev. The case is set for a hearing on November 28.

The petition highlights the petitioner's distress, stating that they and their family, who have been using the product for a long time, recently discovered the inclusion of Sepia officinalis, which contradicts their religious beliefs as they come from a Brahmin background. The petition also references a YouTube video where Baba Ramdev allegedly admitted that "Samudra fen," used in the product, is animal-based, despite the product being marketed as vegetarian.
