Parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday afternoon, bringing much-needed respite from the soaring heat. However, the changing weather pattern has also prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for the city.
According to the IMD, thunderstorms and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are expected to intensify over the next two hours. Wind speeds may reach up to 60 kmph, especially in areas including Central, East, New Delhi, Shahdara, South, and North-West Delhi.
Officials have warned that flight operations may be disrupted due to strong winds and reduced visibility. Passengers are advised to check their flight status with airlines before heading to the airport.
While the stormy weather could impact travel and outdoor activities, residents are also likely to feel some relief from the recent spike in temperature. Over the past 24 hours, Delhi recorded a noticeable rise in minimum temperatures, making the rainfall a temporary but welcome break.
Meanwhile, the IMD also confirmed that the southwest monsoon has advanced into parts of the south Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This early advancement indicates a seasonal shift in weather patterns, with more changes expected in the coming weeks.
