Delhi Police has arrested a couple accused of running a nationwide fraud racket inspired by the Bollywood film Bunty aur Babli. The duo allegedly duped aspiring actors by posing as television producers and directors, with the latest victim losing ₹24 lakh.
The accused were identified as Tarun Shekhar Sharma, 32, a resident of Lucknow, and Asha Singh alias Bhawna, 29, from Delhi. Police said the two are linked to over 20 similar complaints across different states.
According to investigators, the couple lured their victims through social media by offering roles in popular TV serials and OTT shows. The complainant in the latest case was asked to transfer money on multiple pretexts, including processing and membership charges, before being blocked.
Following a money trail, police tracked the accused to a rented apartment in Bengaluru. Seven mobile phones, 10 SIM cards, 15 bank accounts, eight ATM cards, and gold jewellery were seized. Officials said the duo frequently changed locations, lived in luxury hotels, and used multiple accounts and SIMs to avoid detection.
