Dengue outbreak in Kolkata takes life of veteran painter, health concerns rise

Kolkata’s ongoing dengue surge has claimed another life, this time that of noted painter Swarup Mukhopadhyay. The senior citizen, a resident of Sunny Park in Ballygunge, was widely known in the art community for his creative works appreciated both in India and abroad.

According to reports, Mukhopadhyay’s health deteriorated last Wednesday and medical tests confirmed dengue infection. He was admitted to a private hospital near the bypass, where doctors provided intensive treatment. Despite their efforts, his condition worsened and he passed away.

The death has cast a pall of grief over the city’s art community, which has lost one of its most respected members. His contributions to the art world spanned decades, leaving a lasting legacy through his exhibitions and paintings.

With dengue cases steadily increasing in Kolkata, the health department has expressed growing concern. Experts have urged residents to adopt strict mosquito-control measures, especially during the monsoon season, to prevent further casualties.
