Vistara Airlines has paid a record fine of Rs 70 lakh imposed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for not operating the minimum mandated number of flights to underserved areas in the North East of the country, a report said. The fine was imposed last October by the Civil Aviation Authority for non-compliance.
The airline's available seat count (ASKM) for April 2022 was 0.99 percent, which was less than the mandatory 1 percent on Northeast routes. "As a law-abiding organization and in compliance with the order, Vistara has paid the protest fine," a Vistara spokesperson said in a statement Friday.
"We also confirm that we have since deployed capacity in excess of the RDG (Route Dispersion Directive) requirement as we have done in the past," the spokesperson added.
Vistara was unable to operate a single flight from Bagdogra, resulting in a record airline fine.
