Night blaze behind Sealdah station burns down several food stalls
In a shocking case of theft from a state-owned bank on Park Street, Kolkata, gold and diamond jewelry worth approximately ₹11 crore was recovered from the residence of a bank employee and her brother. The police arrested the accused, Moumita, and her brother, Mithun, after complaints of missing valuables from bank lockers surfaced.
The investigation began when a customer, Shashi Pasri, reported missing jewelry from her locker to the Lalbazar detective department. Detectives soon focused their attention on Moumita, the employee in charge of the lockers. Surveillance and further inquiry revealed her involvement in systematically removing valuables from customer lockers.
A search at Moumita's residence in Sardan Enclave, Kasba, on Tuesday night unearthed a staggering cache of stolen items. The recovered valuables included 27 pieces of diamond jewelry valued at ₹10 crore, 7 gold ornaments weighing 370 grams worth ₹27.75 lakh, 11 gold bars weighing 782 grams worth ₹66.5 lakh, and 6 gold coins valued at ₹3.9 lakh.
According to investigators, Moumita and her brother used the stolen wealth to finance a lavish lifestyle, purchasing luxury cars, iPhones, laptops, and more. The accused have reportedly confessed to their crimes during interrogation.
