After a 15-day 'Anasara' period following the annual Snan Yatra, the sanctum sanctorum of the Jagannath Temple in Digha was reopened to devotees on Thursday morning. The Anasara period is observed every year, during which Lord Jagannath is believed to be unwell and temple doors remain closed to the public. On Thursday, the sanctum doors were opened at 6:30 AM. Devotees had started gathering outside the temple from 5:00 AM onwards, forming long queues at the main entrance.
The day’s rituals began with Mangala Aarti, followed by the morning puja. By 7:00 AM, breakfast offerings were made to the deity. Throughout the day, the temple conducted scheduled religious rituals, including kirtan and ceremonial worship. Devotees participated in the full-day observance after the completion of the Anasara period. Special arrangements were in place inside the temple complex for smooth conduct of rituals and movement of devotees.
A key highlight of the day was the offering of the 'Chappan Bhog' (56 food items) during the midday meal to Lord Jagannath. This marked the first full meal after the fasting and rest period. As per official information, around 50 foreign devotees had arrived in Digha prior to the reopening and participated in the religious events. The temple premises remained open for darshan throughout the day as rituals continued.
