Minister Dilip Ghosh on Sunday condemned the recent attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. While Ghosh maintained that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands, he suggested that the incident was a direct reflection of the long-standing public resentment against the state's ruling party. He noted that such outbursts are inevitable when people feel suppressed for extended periods.
Ghosh argued that the citizens of West Bengal have been suffering under the TMC administration for the past 15 years. According to him, the harassment of the common man has reached a tipping point, leading to spontaneous displays of anger. He emphasized that while the act of violence itself cannot be justified, the underlying cause—widespread public frustration—must be acknowledged by the TMC leadership.
Further criticising Banerjee, Ghosh questioned the wisdom of his visit to the area, especially given the heightened political tensions following the recently concluded Assembly elections. He pointed out that the election results should have served as a clear indicator of the ground reality. Ghosh suggested that Banerjee's attempt to visit sensitive zones without his usual massive security convoy was an unnecessary attempt to "play the hero." The BJP leader concluded by stating that the public had been waiting for an opportunity to voice their grievances. He questioned why the TMC leader would provide such opportunities by entering areas where public sentiment is visibly hostile.
