Ex-TMC MPs Sukhendu, Sushmita and Prakash join BJP in presence of Samik Bhattacharya
Widespread resentment has gripped local traders following the attack on Vishwanath Agarwal, General Secretary of the Posta Merchants' Association. In protest against the incident, a large number of traders kept their shops closed and called for an indefinite strike, stating that they feel increasingly unsafe due to the rising number of criminal incidents in the market area and demanding strict action against those responsible. Reacting sharply to the shutdown, Minister Dilip Ghosh took an aggressive stance, describing the egg-pelting incident as a "Bengali innovation" and referring to the association's secretary as a Trinamool cadre. He said that an egg was thrown at an individual in the market and traders subsequently went on strike, adding that such a move amounts to challenging the government. Ghosh further stated that the person receiving such support was a criminal and a Trinamool cadre who had been appointed as the market's secretary, and warned that supporting him amounts to challenging the government and should not be repeated.
