Dilip Ghosh returns without inaugurating BJP office in Kharagpur amid low turnout

Former West Bengal BJP state president and former MP Dilip Ghosh returned without inaugurating a newly constructed party office in the Dantan Assembly constituency after finding a sparse gathering at the venue. The incident occurred on Friday in the Nayagram area under Mohanpur Block, where the BJP’s Dantan-2 Mandal Committee had organised the programme.

According to party sources, Dilip Ghosh arrived at the scheduled time but found that while a few local leaders were present, party workers and supporters were largely absent. The office premises were reportedly almost empty. Expressing dissatisfaction over the situation, he is said to have raised questions about organisational preparedness before leaving for another engagement.

Later, speaking to the media, Ghosh attributed the low attendance to the ongoing farming season, stating that many people might not have been able to arrive on time. He said he had another scheduled programme and could not wait longer. “Those party members who are present can carry out the inauguration,” he remarked.

Local BJP leaders described the episode as a coordination issue, claiming that workers had been informed but could not attend in expected numbers due to agricultural work and other reasons. They maintained that it was an organisational lapse rather than a reflection of political strength.

The ruling All India Trinamool Congress launched a sharp attack, with Mohanpur Block TMC president Manik Maity alleging that the BJP was losing ground and public participation in its programmes was declining. Political observers said such incidents often trigger debate over grassroots organisational strength, especially ahead of elections.
