Former BJP state president and veteran leader Dilip Ghosh is finally stepping into married life at the age of 61. The former Lok Sabha MP and MLA is set to tie the knot with Rinku Majumdar, a fellow BJP leader from South Kolkata, in a private ceremony at his New Town residence on Friday.
The love story, which began through party work, blossomed quietly. Rinku, a divorced housewife and mother of a son who works in the IT sector, reportedly proposed the idea of starting a family with Dilip after witnessing his disappointment post the 2024 Lok Sabha election defeat. Sources say it was her heartfelt proposal that slowly won over the long-time bachelor.
Initially, Dilip was hesitant. But close aides reveal that it was ultimately his mother’s wish that played a pivotal role in changing his mind. “Even six months ago, he hadn’t considered marriage. But over time, he accepted that this too is a part of life’s journey,” said a party insider.
Interestingly, the turning point in their relationship may have been a shared moment at Eden Gardens during a KKR IPL match on April 3. Dilip, Rinku, her son, and other family members were seen watching the match from Box No. 11 — a moment that insiders now call the unofficial confirmation of their upcoming union.
News of the wedding started doing the rounds on Thursday. When asked, Dilip responded in his signature style, saying, “Why can’t I get married? Is getting married a crime?” Though he didn’t confirm the news directly, his cryptic response left little doubt.
The wedding will be a low-key affair, with only close friends and family invited. Party leaders say this is in keeping with Dilip’s simple lifestyle and dislike for grand showmanship. Some within the party have already extended their congratulations, calling it another example of Dilip's "bold and unconventional" decisions.
