BJP leader and former West Bengal state president Dilip Ghosh has strongly supported the Centre’s ongoing counter-terror operations and issued sharp criticism of the West Bengal government on multiple issues, including the Dearness Allowance (DA) case, teacher protests, and recent internal reshuffles within the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Speaking on the anti-terror campaign ‘Operation Sindoor’, Ghosh said, “Modi had already said we’ll hit them in their homes. The army is going further—saying they’ll hit them in bathrooms, because that’s where terrorists are hiding.” He added, “This is India’s current mood. Those who used to criticize didn’t imagine the actions India has taken. Pakistan’s mouth is shut. The mouths of their backers and war profiteers are also shut.”
On the Supreme Court’s direction in the DA case, Ghosh stated that the court has ordered the state to pay 25% of the pending DA before the next hearing in August. He remarked, “This is not the first time. Earlier too, the court has said it. The government didn’t comply, saying they don’t have funds.” He further questioned the state's credibility, saying, “A government that can’t support its own children shouldn’t be in power. They accept verdicts when it’s in their favour and reject it otherwise.”
Regarding the police lathi-charge on protesting teachers outside Bikash Bhavan, Ghosh asked, “Why were teachers kicked? Why were they beaten when they were protesting peacefully?” He added, “Is this a time when touching someone’s feet is replaced with kicks?” He criticised the state's justification and said the government should go to court and declare that the 18,000 candidates are eligible and that the state wants to provide them with jobs.
On TMC leader Sabyasachi Dutta’s altercation with protestors during the same demonstration, Ghosh said, “I don’t know all the details, but his expressions revealed a lot. His language while talking to journalists was also notable. Maybe he’s a councillor—but does that mean he can say or do anything? The protestors have sentiments. Why provoke them? This controversy seems unnecessary and appears aimed at staying in the news.”
Commenting on the recent organisational changes within the TMC ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls, particularly the removal of Anubrata Mondal as Birbhum district president, Ghosh said, “We know he’s not the president anymore. Mamata sometimes says she will handle it herself. But we are seeing the results when she does that.”
