Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has come under scrutiny within the party after being seen sitting and conversing with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple in Digha. A video of the event went viral, prompting speculation about Ghosh’s future in the party and triggering dissatisfaction among several BJP leaders and workers.
In response to the backlash, Dilip Ghosh addressed the issue on Thursday morning following his routine morning walk. Without naming individuals directly, he took aim at party leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Saumitra Khan. Ghosh said, “Those who grew up under Mamata’s protection are now trying to teach me BJP,” indicating discomfort over criticism from those who were previously associated with the ruling party.
Ghosh clarified that his presence at the religious function was not political and stressed the importance of separating religion from party lines. He said, “I attended the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple. There is much controversy about it, but I believe God should be kept above politics. This question is being raised—why did I go to God? I have been serving God since childhood. I believe that no matter who builds the temple, God belongs to everyone.”
Addressing concerns from within the party, Ghosh claimed that some workers were feeling demoralised. “I see that some of our party workers are very upset, even thinking about suicide. I want to tell them that it takes a strong heart to be in BJP. We have brought this party to its current position with our blood and sweat. True BJP workers are not afraid. Ever since fear and doubt entered the party, we have been retreating,” he said.
He also made a direct statement targeting Suvendu Adhikari, saying, “No one has the courage to speak against Dilip Ghosh. Don’t try to teach me Hindutva. Those who are making big claims today grew up under Mamata’s protection.” On Saumitra Khan, he added, “Those who keep four girlfriends and live separate lives during the day and night are calling Dilip Ghosh a hedonist. People know who Dilip Ghosh is.”
Despite the controversy and internal criticism, Ghosh reaffirmed his loyalty to the party. “I was in BJP, I am in BJP, and I will remain in BJP,” he said. He further claimed that some people are trying to remove him from the party, but asserted that such efforts would not succeed. He urged BJP workers not to panic or be discouraged by recent developments.
