A new direct government bus service from Memari to Digha via Hooghly has been launched by the Transport Department of West Bengal and the South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC). The bus departs daily at 6 AM from Memari and reaches Digha by 12 noon. The route includes stoppages at Banshi, Pandua, and Magra, and offers a 45-minute break for food and rest. The fare has been fixed at ₹209 from Memari and ₹180 from Magra.
The initiative aims to provide affordable and accessible transportation for residents of Hooghly and nearby rural areas who travel to Digha. The bus service is government-operated and follows a fixed schedule. It halts near the newly constructed Jagannath Temple in Digha, making it convenient for tourists visiting both the temple and the beach. Officials confirmed that this route was introduced to meet public demand for a direct link between these regions and the coastal town.
A newly constructed Jagannath Temple has been opened in Digha, built on the initiative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Designed in the architectural style of Puri’s temple, the structure is located near the seafront. Its completion has added a religious site to the region’s tourism offerings. The new bus route is expected to benefit travelers heading to the temple and the beach.
