By-polls announced on 6 Assembly & 1 Lok Sabha seat of Bengal on Nov 13
In a heated session at the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, DMK MP DNV Senthilkumar stirred controversy with his remark categorizing the Hindi heartland states as "gaumutra states."
Participating in a debate on two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir, Senthilkumar asserted that the BJP's electoral prowess was confined to these states, suggesting that they are only capable of winning elections in the so-called "gaumutra states."
This provocative statement triggered a swift response from BJP leaders who retaliated by questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's stance on the derogatory remarks made by their INDIA bloc partner against north Indians.
The BJP's GVL Narasimha Rao took the confrontation a step further, urging the Tamil Nadu government to register a case against the DMK MP for alleged "hate speeches" against Sanatan Dharma. Rao further called for the dismissal of state ministers responsible for such statements.
The incident has added fuel to the ongoing political tensions between the DMK and BJP.
