Tension erupted at Howrah District Hospital after a patient's demise sparked outrage among relatives. The deceased, identified as Anuj Sharma, a 50-year-old barber from Salkia, was admitted to the hospital on the previous night due to illness. When his relatives visited in the morning, the attending doctor allegedly expressed little hope for his survival, stating that medications worth Rs. 25,000 were needed.
In response, the patient's relatives reminded the doctor that it was a government hospital and demanded appropriate treatment. However, the doctor reportedly advised them to seek treatment at a private hospital. Tragically, the patient passed away shortly afterward.
The incident led to widespread tension on the hospital premises, with the patient's relatives staging protests. Law enforcement authorities from Howrah Police were called to the scene to restore order.
The grieving family members are now demanding disciplinary action against the doctor involved.
