Don't see RSS through BJP's lens, says Mohan Bhagwat at Kolkata event

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, while addressing the 'RSS 100 Vyakhyan Mala' programme in Kolkata on Sunday, emphasised that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) should not be viewed solely through the lens of the BJP. He noted that such comparisons often lead to a massive misunderstanding of the organisation’s core values and objectives. While acknowledging that many Swayamsevaks are active in politics and power, he asserted that the Sangh itself transcends political affiliations and is devoted primarily to the betterment of the nation and society.

Bhagwat urged citizens to dedicate at least one hour a day to national development and social welfare, regardless of their cultural or political leanings. He explained that the physical presence of members in various sectors of society is what often causes outsiders to misinterpret the organisation as a political entity. To truly understand the Sangh, Bhagwat suggested that one must "look at it and feel it" rather than relying on vague comparisons with other political or social organisations.

Highlighting the scale of their social contributions, Bhagwat claimed that Swayamsevaks currently run nearly 1,30,000 service schemes across various platforms. Crucially, he noted that these initiatives operate without a single penny from the government. However, he was quick to clarify that calling the RSS "just another service organisation" would be another mistake. He defined the Sangh as a unique movement that goes beyond mere service to focus on character building and national strength.

The RSS chief also reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to protecting the interests of Hindus. He spoke passionately about the unification of Hindu society, describing it as a primary mission.
