Donate blood for VIP darshan at MP's Omkareshwar temple, pilgrims praise move

In a unique blend of spiritual faith and social responsibility, the Khandwa district administration of Madhya Pradesh has launched an innovative initiative at the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga temple. Starting this Tuesday, February 24, devotees who choose to donate blood in the holy city will be rewarded with free VIP protocol darshan, allowing them to skip the long queues. Khandwa Collector Rishav Gupta introduced this scheme to inspire the thousands of pilgrims visiting the shrine daily to contribute toward the region’s critical blood requirements.

The campaign saw immediate success on its inaugural day, with more than 13 devotees stepping forward to donate blood. To facilitate the process, a dedicated blood donation counter has been set up near the temple premises by the District Hospital. Devotees who wish to avoid the heavy crowds can simply visit the counter, complete the donation process under the supervision of a medical team, and then proceed directly for the VIP darshan of the deity.

The decision behind this initiative stems from an increasing demand for blood in the district. Due to the presence of national highways nearby, road accidents are frequent, often involving pilgrims traveling to the shrine. Collector Gupta emphasized that blood is a "Mahadan" (supreme gift) and a single unit can save a life. By integrating this life-saving act with the pilgrimage experience, the administration hopes to create a sustainable and reliable blood supply for local hospitals.
