Door-to-door voter verification in Delhi from June 30, final electoral roll on October 7

Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar on Wednesday announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the national capital will begin on June 30, with Booth Level Officers starting door-to-door verification across the city. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, while the final electoral roll after completion of the revision process will be released on October 7. Officials said the exercise would be conducted in a transparent manner with participation from political parties through Booth Level Agents.

According to the announced schedule, training of Booth Level Officers will take place from June 20 to June 29. Enumeration forms and related documents will be printed as part of an in-house process before field verification begins. The revision exercise will cover all voters aged 18 years and above as of the qualifying date of October 1. Existing electors whose names are already present in the electoral rolls will receive enumeration forms in duplicate, one of which must be filled and returned to the Booth Level Officer.

Ashok Kumar said voters would also have the option to submit completed enumeration forms online. Awareness programmes and special camps will be organised to assist voters during the process. If a residence is found locked or residents are unavailable during verification, Booth Level Officers have been instructed to leave forms at the location and revisit the household at least three times to collect the required information.

The CEO said the verification exercise aims to prepare updated voter data for 2025 and cross-reference it with records from 2002. If forms are not returned, Booth Level Officers will conduct local inquiries to determine whether the voter falls under any of five categories identified as Absent, Shifted, Deceased, Duplicate or Foreign National. Officials said names identified under these categories would be removed from the electoral roll in accordance with the established procedure.

Election officials also announced rationalisation of polling stations in Delhi to reduce overcrowding during elections. The maximum number of voters assigned to a polling station will be reduced from 1,500 to 1,200. According to figures released by the CEO’s office, 13,033 Booth Level Officers and 29,758 Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties will participate in the revision exercise. Officials said meetings with political parties have already been conducted, and parties have assured cooperation for the process.
